ABOUT ATOO HEERA SAKHRANI
Born in Hong Kong in 1941, was raised in Hong Kong up to secondary school level. Proceeded to New York University at the age of 18 to Major in International Trade and Finance. Was accredited as International Trade Specialist, and from 1969 to 1974 was involved in number industrial enterprises in the Garment industry in Hong Kong & Singapore and by 1974, under the Corporate Umbrella of Heera Industries Ltd, he owned and operated 11 garment factories in Hong Kong and Singapore with a work force of approximately 4,500 workers and with an annual sales turnover of US$150 Million in 1971 which is equivalent to over US$1 billion in today s value.
In 1971 operated a joint venture making Jackets with the Foshan Government Factory No.2 and was exporting Jackets from China to U.S.A. and Europe including the U.K. This factory employed a work force of about 1,000 people and was a successful joint venture with expertise brought into China from Hong Kong.
1971-1990 established and operated sales offices in New York for apparel and was supplying to most Major Retail outlets in the U.S.A.
In 1984 expanded into a joint venture in Bangladesh manufacturing garments for USA and Europe and was voluntarily involved in Trade Advisory work for the Textile Ministry of the Bangladesh Government
In 1990- 1994 was Trade Advisor and Commissioner for Trade and Industry for the country of Mongolia as was shuttling between Japan and Mongolia while developing trade between the two countries and assisting in the economic development of Mongolia as the first foreign appointed Commissioner for Trade and Industry by Decree. Also was appointed as the Economic Advisor to the then Prime Minister of Mongolia, Mr. Jasrai.
1990-1997 also started and operated export offices in Beijing China specializing in textiles and was also doing Advisory work with the MOFTEC (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation) based in Beijing.
1997 -2007 Proceed to New York as an independent Consulting Firm in an Advisory Capacity for International Trade and Financial Activities with Wall Street.
2007 returned to Japan, the family base which was established since 1936 to set up trading and advisory offices to companies wishing to get involved with Japanese business.
Speaks English, Chinese, Japanese and some Hindi
- 1965- 1966 Was involved under the auspices of the U.N. Economic Development Team in the planning of the infrastructure and birth of the Singapore Economic Development Board. Participated and was involved in the planning of the economic health of Singapore in its infancy stages
- 1984 . Was instrumental in securing the substantial textile quota allocation from U.S.A. for the country of Bangladesh to secure enough export quota to be able sustain the economy of Bangladesh. Even up to this day, Bangladesh is able to thrive due to its textile exports mainly to USA and to Europe as the main income earner for its economy.
- 1990-1992 As Commissioner of Trade & Industry for Mongolia was successful in hosting through the Mongolian Embassy in Tokyo and raising donation commitments for Mongolia s Economic Advancement Amounting to US$327 Million from 35 Countries who agreed to assist in the recovery and economic development of Mongolia after Russia had abandoned Mongolia due to its own problems with the breaking up of the U.S.S.R
- Solidified relationships between Japan and Mongolia and also Japan and South Korea by representing Mongolia as its Commissioner of Trade in the global arena with more emphasis on the Mongolia-Japan relationship. Most Japanese Newspapers covered the accomplishments of Mr. Sakhrani in Japan as the bridge with Mongolia during 1990-1992.
